Name Brand Power Drills or Discount Brands?

If you have ever wondered what the difference was between name brand power drills and discounted brands, keep reading. The simple answer is that in most cases, the main difference is the name on the label. Brand loyalty plays a large part in the industry and people are often willing to pay substantially more cash for a name they recognize. The truth of the matter is that in most cases, lower cost discount brand power drills can do the same job for a good deal less money.

Another interesting thing to note is that in some situations you will find the exact same product with two different brand names. The only two differences between the two tools is the brand labeling and of course, the price tag. For example, consider the products offered by the major power tool manufacturer Bosch.

The Bosch Company offers an expensive 'top of the line' array of power tools in blue cases and a slightly lower quality series in cases that are green. At the same time, Bosch produces tools that are considered 'low end' under the brand name Skil.

Which power drills should I choose?

If you are stuck on the fence and trying to decide whether you should purchase a brand name power drill or a discounted one, the first question you should ask yourself is how the power drill will be used. If you are purchasing a tool for use on a specific project and it is not likely to see regular use, a lower quality tool will probably work just fine for your needs.

Another consideration is your budget. If you are on a limited budget and need to purchase more than one tool to get the job done, discount brands may be the way to go. In some instances the difference in cost could easily mean the difference in buying one tool versus the two or three you might need to get your project completed.

The Advantage of Brand Names

One of the biggest and most notable advantages to owning a brand name power tool is that they often come with a much better warranty. They are also better able in most cases to withstand wear and tear. If you use your power tools on a regular basis, heavy duty brand name tools can be a wise investment for the long haul. You should also look into having an identifying mark engraved on them to protect you from theft and assist you in recovering them should they be stolen from your garage or job site.

In the end, the choice between brand name power drills and their discount priced brethren comes down to your own personal preference. Brand loyalty can go a long way, but only if you feel that the financial difference is worth it in the long run. At the same time, brand name tools do tend to last longer, so weigh your options and choose wisely.
